Rifugio Griera( Military path to Legnone)

Description:

The ascent to the Griera hut can be made comfortably along this old military road dating back to the First World War.

The road starts along the valvarrone road between Pagnona and Tremenico, we will find coming from Pagnona on the right the signs that indicate the refuge and the beginning of the military road,we will turn with our vehicles along this military road and we will follow it for about 100m with our cars until we find in the parking lot on the left near a small church,this is one of the few parking lots in the area,other parking lots for about 2-3 cars are placed along the Valvarrone road.

Once we leave our car, we walk along the military road passing a small village of the Alpe Gallino;we continue to climb along the military road that never presents challenging slopes and which continuously presents a series of hairpin bends one in line with the other.

We will pass along some huts/stables and slowly as we climb we will enter a beautiful beech forest that will accompany us almost to the refuge. In these sections there are paths that allow us to cut,however I recommend avoiding taking them during the climb,while for the descent to save time we could very well use these "shortcuts".

The route is quite long following the military road, however, thanks to the slight slopes we climb nimbly without realizing the difference in height we are making.

Slowly the larch forest leaves room for larches,and near the Alpe Vesina, the vegetation thinens leaving us to admire beautiful views of the lake and Mount Legnone.

The road continues with the series of hairpin bends until you reach the Alpe di Campo where the larch woods leave us and from which we can admire the refuge now located a few meters above us.

We will continue to follow the military road near the last hairpin bend we will meet the path coming from Premana and from this point we can admire other Orobic peaks such as Pizzo dei Tre Signori, and Alpe Paglio right in front of us.

In a short time we will finally reach the refuge, a real balcony on the lake.
