Valmadrera - Monte Moregallo
General Notes:
Altitude Difference: 1100 m
Time: 2h e 20'
Phisical Effort: Normal
Difficulty: E
Description:
The path we propose is known as the Via Sambrosera, the easiest and most direct way to reach the summit of Moregallo.
Starting point is Valmadrera, for those coming from Milan it is possible to park our car right behind the new municipality of Valmadrera, where there are multiple parking spaces and not paid.
Once parked we will reach the church of Valmadrera, ten meters above which we will find signs for all the paths.
We will follow a road that goes up along some of the ancient streets of Valmadrera until the road turns into a rural road where only vehicles with permission can circulate.
We will follow a first stretch of road quite steep and on a beautiful pebble until a small chapel where the path will divide into two parts:the first that will turn left will head towards San Tomaso, while our always indicated with the trail signs 7/6 will continue straight.
We will skirt some farmhouses and then go into a beautiful hardwood forest, the path is clearly visible and well maintained, bordered at its two ends by dry stone walls that will cover it for about 600m.
The very stony bottom with a very steep path allow you to easily and quickly climb this stretch of path.
During the ascent we will find some Casere, these are buildings used by the staff of the huts as a shelter and for the production of milk derivatives, which have been recovered in recent years thanks to the volunteers of the SEV,Valmadreresi hikers society.
After about 1h, during which the path always remains with fairly high constant slopes and always marked by the numbers 6/7,we will arrive at the source of Sambrosera where we could rest and choose which route to use for the climb.
After resting we will have to go back a couple of meters from our steps, and take the path now marked by the trail number 6/13,the hardest part of the path begins, the slopes become high and the path becomes quite narrow,in some places to help us in the climb we will be forced to use our hands as well.
We climb very quickly, encountering on our way some detours for mountain ridges and climbing routes.
We pass through two rocky torions and the path becomes quite simple for about 400m,in this flat stretch we can already see the gully where the path develops that we will have to face up to the bocchetta di Sambrosera.
As soon as the gully begins the slopes return to be very high, the path goes up with continuous very steep hairpin bends, and in a short time I am afraid we will gain considerable height,in the last meters we should also use our hands to help us in the climb, however we will manage without any problem to reach the Bocchetta.
Here the path meets with the one that goes up from Preguda, we are at 1192 m.a.s.l,now the top is not far away,we will turn left and make the last meters.
In this last stretch we have various possibilities especially in the initial part, we could choose whether to cover a short stretch in the ridge very beautiful and with a view of the landscape, or face a quieter path on an old river bed.
Choosing one or the other is indifferent,in fact they will reconnect about 100 m later, after which they will continue together to the top,we will enter again for a few in a small forest, where the paths that go up from the locality Moregallo will reconnect to our path, but in the last 50 meters after leaving the vegetation we should only walk along a beautiful meadow that will lead us to the cross and to a small madonna adjacent to them.
The view is nothing short of wonderful, especially towards the corni di Canzo and the rifugio Sev.
