Torri di Fraele - Monte delle scale

Description:

The Monte delle Scale located at an altitude of 2495 m. a. s.l, is one of the most panoramic peaks of the Alta Valtellina. From the towers of Fraele starts a beautiful mule track, created in the years of the First World War, which in the span of 2h leads up to the summit of the mountain passing along some landslide ridges and spires that are very reminiscent of the Dolomite environments.

The entrance of the path is located just near the tower, near a small parking lot where you can leave your cars.

As mentioned above, the path is a mule track that climbs with fairly moderate slopes within a bellisma mugheta. For about 30' the path continues to climb along this mugheta with a series of hairpin bends one in line with the other that allows us to gain altitude in a short time.

The path becomes flat moving along the ridges of the mountain.

We will face a short exposed section where the path always remains very wide, however in the most landslide points we will have to keep more attention,although these sections are not dangerous at all.

This landscape comparable to a Dolomite is extremely pleasant, we will find during the path some chains in the points where the path becomes very narrow and this something more allows us to face these points with great tranquility.

Slowly we are approaching the peak that we are able to glimpse in some places;in addition to the summit we are also approaching a fort of the First World War.

Once we reach the fort we should cross it following a fairly dark tunnel of about 30m long.

At the end of the gallery we will come out on a beautiful meadow,where some benches are placed to stop and rest,the landscape is transformed the rock leaves room for meadows,and the summit is now close.

Once out of the gallery we will turn right following a beautiful path that has medium slopes and that in a short time will lead us to the cross,summit of the Monte delle Scale.

From the summit the view towards the valley of Bormio is beautiful,from this we can also glimpse in the distance the Stelvio pass,the systems of the pass, and some valleys and mountains present here. If we are lucky from the summit it is also possible to admire the flight of some eagle, or even if rarer than some gipeto.
